Men's   League

The only game of the evening in the men's league was the clash of Ron Smiths Turkeys against Outback Hoppers who were hoping for a good run out prior to their cup final meeting with Microgaming Cavaliers next Thursday. In a high scoring opening to the game, both teams traded baskets and Turkeys held a one point lead, 24 - 23, going into the second quarter. The second period continued in the same vein with both teams hitting their shots from outside to leave the game 41 - 39 in favour of Turkeys at the half time break. The start of the third quarter saw Turkeys take control of the game and they outscored the Hoppers 21 - 5 to open up an 18 point lead going into the final quarter. Despite some strong pressure from the Hoppers in the final period, they were unable to claw back the lead and Turkeys eventually took the game 75 - 64. Top scorers for Turkeys were Simon Elson and Paul Ellison with 21 and 15 points respectively, while Wayne Mears with 17 and Chris Wolfendale with 16 points topped the scoring for the Hoppers.

The only other game played on Thursday evening saw Pinoy Rams record a 65 - 42 victory over the Isle of Man ladies team who are continuing their preparations for the island games in Aland

Preview of Men's and Ladies cup finals to be played Thursday  02 April 2009

Next Thursday sees the climax of the season with the men's and ladies cup finals. The men's final sees Microgaming Cavaliers looking to complete the league and cup double with victory over Outback Hoppers. The outcome of this game could be decided by the ability of Hoppers to contain the inside threat of Cavs big men Dave Minay and Bob Gibson, while the outside shooting of Dave Bowman and Chris Wolfendale will be crucial to the Hoppers if they are to mount a serious challenge for their only chance of silverware this season. Prediction Hoppers to edge a close game by 3-4 points

The ladies final sees the experienced team from the south, Dacom take on newly crowned league champions Fellas. Dacom will need to restrict the fast break game of the Fellas team and control the boards at each end if they are to have any chance of stopping the Fellas team completing the league and cup double. Prediction Fellas to take the game by 10 point.
