Men's and Ladies Cup semi-finals It was cup semi-finals night at the NSC last Thursday, with Outback Hoppers taking on Pinoy Rams in the first of the men's semi-finals, while newly crowned league champions Microgaming Cavaliers took on their old rivals Ron Smiths Turkeys looking to keep alive their hopes of a league and cup double. The first game was a tight affair between Hoppers and Rams, with the Rams looking good for a place in the final when they opened up a 14 point lead at the start of the third quarter, but some strong defence from the Hoppers allied with excellent outside shooting saw them claw their way back into the game to only trail by six points. The final quarter saw both teams trading baskets and with two minutes left on the clock the Rams held an eight point lead, but with two quick baskets from Wayne Mears and a '3-pointer' from Sandeep Iver, the Hoppers trailed by a single point when Iver was fouled in the act of shooting and went to the free throw line to tie the game 52 - 52 and send it into a free throw shoot out. The shoot out saw Hoppers hold their nerve and it was left again to Sandeep Iver to hit the winning shot and send the Hoppers into the final. The second semi final saw Cavs come out on top against the Turkeys, 47 - 39, in a game that was hard to call throughout, it was left to Paul Kilic who hit a vital '3-pointer' in the last minute of the game to keep the Cavs league and cup double dream alive
The two semi-finals in the ladies cup were one sided affairs, with league champions Fellas overcoming an under strength Search and Select Saints 82 - 32, to set up a final against Sleepwell Slammers, who after a slow start ran out convincing 66 - 15 winners over Dacom.
Junior League The two junior league games played saw victories for West 1 who beat GB'a 61 - 26, to maintain their position at the top of the league, while GB'z recorded a 62 - 22 win against Southern
